My favorite movie, The Shining, was partially filmed at this hotel and its surroundings. It was eerie driving through the mountains with the opening music playing in my head, but upon arrival to Estes Park, was relieved to see that the town abutting the hotel was full of cute restaurants and shops. You can walk around the grounds and inside the hotel without charge. There is a restaurant on the premises and a history and ghost tour that movie buffs love.
